Anime Pilgrimage / Scene Hunting in Singapore

Me and my waifu in Singapore

Good Morning Internet,

I have a hypothesis. If you watch a certain anime episode at a specific place where that episode takes place, you can open a portal to the anime world (or 2D world). That way, you (hopefully) can be reunited with the waifu that you cherish. Right?

Well of course there is no such thing as portal to another world or whatever, but visiting real life location of anime is a big phenomena in anime fandom. In the past few years, the number of anime has increased. Online map has also been improving with satellite view and street view becomes accessible to more people. Some anime fan (including me) would go to a faraway city just to see where the anime takes place and took some picture of it. It is an enjoyable activity but requires a great deal of planning

When we talk about anime tourism, the anime fandom usually refer it as either Seichijunrei (聖地巡礼 lit. “Holy Site Pilgrimage”) or Butaitanbou (舞台探訪 lit. “Stage Exploration”). You can read Michael Vito’s observation and research on this in his blog. Please visit his blog for detailed explanation and a good example here. (Archived page here)

Singapore is one of the place where anime takes place. It is featured in Plastic Memories and Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire. It is also mentioned in A Place Further than the UniverseCowboy BebopCardfight VanguardZetsuen no Tempest, and JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders. Since I only watched Plamemo and Yorimoi, this pilgrimage/scene hunting will focus on that two anime. So here it is:

Plastic Memories anime real life location in singapore

Plastic Memories Episode 5 real life location

A Place Further than Universe anime real life location in Singapore

A Place Further Than the Universe Episode 6 real life location
